These watches, with their plastic cases and very cheap movements, were designed to be thrown away after breaking, not repaired. Timex actually has a long history of manufacturing watches for the United States government. These include bomb timers, stopwatches, and of course watches.

But you already know about that last one, right? After all, a Timex/J.Crew military watch is issued to practically every white man under the age of 40 when he walks down South of 34th Street. But, the problem is, Timex and J.Crew claim that the watches they sell are made in homage to US military special watches from the 1940s.

This is not correct. In fact, Timex only had a contract with the US government to make watches for mail features, and that was in the 1980s. Other Timex watches were made and then purchased by the military for production, but this is not the same thing.
